Sustainable Spotlight: The T-shirt Band

Not to be confused with a band t-shirt, which is much more expensive, the t-shirt band is a cardboard wrap. But, if you sell band t-shirts, we hope you consider packaging them in a t-shirt band instead of a plastic poly bag.

Why?

I think we know the hazards of plastic poly bags and the havoc they wreak on our environment. And when was the last time you shopped for clothes online? You open the box to a landfill nightmare waiting to happen. Next thing you know, the room is piled in plastic you’ll never reuse, so into the trash it goes.

And from there, sadly, there’s a good chance it will end up polluting our oceans.

Obviously, this is not ideal.

We want to avoid pollution and seek sustainable solutions.

So how do you keep all those items of clothing separated and tagged for ease of selling and shipping without sealing them in environmental destruction?

Don’t fold them and stuff them into plastic bags. Roll them and wrap them in cardboard sleeves (aka t-shirt bands). Then tag them with the barcode to keep the band secure.

In addition to using less plastic and, thereby helping the environment, here are other benefits to switching to cardboard bands:

Increase sales. Customers who care about the environment will be impressed by your efforts. They may even purchase from you instead of a competitor because you’re being environmentally responsible. The customers who don’t care… don’t care. But even they may appreciate folding cardboard into the recycle bin rather than swimming in a sea of plastic.

Reduce shipping costs. Apparel wrapped in a cardboard sleeve takes up less space and lowers shipping costs.

Save time. It’s faster to assemble apparel when wrapping it in a cardboard sleeve than folding the clothing and placing it in a plastic bag.
