The Ecoship concept
Ecoship is a working concept based on a new type of modern and environmentally friendly ship design. It is designed around the flexibility of diesel electric propulsion which makes it possible to optimise both cargo space and hull design for improved efficiency, lower fuel consumption and lower emissions.
The Ecoship concept is being developed for modern electrical power plant and electric propulsion. Today this means highly developed electrical distribution, advanced power management system and electrical power generation from low emission diesel electric generating sets complete with selective catalytic exhaust converter system. But the Ecoship concept is also easily adaptable to future and even more environmentally friendly techniques for generating electricity.
The results
In comparison and laboratory tests, the Ecoship concept has proven convincingly that it gives the owners improved operational economy combined with a high degree of flexibility and safety. Ecoship can do the same job as a conventional vessel with considerably less environmental impact and building costs that are only marginally higher.
Ecoship has advantages for the owner, freight purchaser, industry and society as a whole.
